MUSEUM Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec Petit Verdot 2022
2022 Cabernet Sauvignon · Margaret River, Western Australia
Description
Made exclusively from our Wilyabrup vineyard, the wine is hand crafted from start to finish and highlights the culmination of everything we have learnt since our first release in 1987. Lifted, concentrated, complex aromas with boysenberry at the fore, cedar, cigar box, and a hint of olive. The Petit Verdot is complimenting the savoury characters of the Cabernet by bringing cassis and lilac floral notes. A lovely marriage of the three varieties bringing depth and suppleness to the palate. The core of the wine is generously fruit driven, but held in stead with the fine savoury tannins, and delicate rose like acidity. The wine has a heft that is belied by the Malbec and its pretty acidity which results in a complex yet imminently approachable and delicious drink.

- Vineyard Notes
The primary fruit for this wine was grown at the estate in Wilyabrup and this includes some of the older Cabernet Sauvignon on the estate planted in 1986. This was supplemented with Cabernet Sauvignon grown on a neighbouring Wilyabrup vineyard. 3 clones of Cabernet were included in this blend - clone 412, 126 and Houghton Clone. The wine has been supplemented with Malbec and Petit Verdot.
- Winemaking
The fruit was picked in the cool hours of the early morning and allowed to cold soak for 48 hours before fermentation was encouraged. Gentle pump overs to extract the tannins and colour throughout the ferment were watched carefully to ensure the tannins remained soft yet structural. The wine was transferred to a combination of coopers of new and used French oak barriques, hogsheads and puncheons. The wine is 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Malbec and 6% Petit Verdot.
