VINEYARD

At Lenton Brae, every bottle of wine tells a story. And that story always begins in this extraordinary part of the world we call home – Wilyabrup, Margaret River Region.

Our Story

THE HEART OF
MARGARET RIVER

Lenton Brae embraces innovation with a deep respect for the traditions and land that has created award-winning wines for decades.

The first planting took place at our vineyard in 1982. Since then, the site has remained viticulturally active with 19 different clones, making it a place for innovation often ahead of the curve.

With a rich heritage, we continue to push the envelope in terms of quality. Nestled on a special parcel of land in Wilyabrup, our vineyard is positioned on a sloped hill. Our unique aspect allows our whites to receive the perfect amount of gentle morning light while the reds bask in the warm afternoon sun.

While the art of winemaking has remained unchanged for centuries, we have adopted innovative techniques that use technology and research to understand and preserve fruit flavours. Our intimate knowledge of the land, selective harvesting, gentle hand-picking, and small-batch processing result in quality, minimal-intervention wines.

Beyond our Wilyabrup roots, we invest in unique and creative vines to produce classic and interesting small-batch wines. We stand as the exclusive producers of Pinot Blanc in the Margaret River region, a versatile wine originating from the vineyards of Alsace, France.

HERITAGE WE CAN GROW ON

Lenton Brae is home to a unique selection of vines not found anywhere else in the Margaret River region.

Our vineyard consists of 59% whites (pinot blanc, semillon & chardonnay) and 41% reds (merlot, cabernet, petit verdot, cabernet franc). With 19 varietal clones, each with its own unique characteristics, our wines are a testament to our dedication to producing complex and individual flavours. We have made significant investments in our vineyard to ensure a future of our exceptional wines.

Additionally, our Pinot Blanc plantings are unique to Margaret River and have produced exceptional fruit every vintage. Our Semillon, harvested from 38-year-old vines, is some of the best fruit of its kind in Western Australia.

Each variety showcases the impact of our site’s location: the free-draining soils, Mediterranean climate, and coastal influence. Our heritage-driven wines are unique and distinctively represent the Margaret River region, a world-renowned wine destination.

OUR LOCATION IS EVERYTHING

Wilyabrup is the most highly regarded winemaking subregion in Margaret River. It is named after the Wilyabrup Creek, which flows through many vineyards covering the region’s gentle slopes. Some of the world’s greatest wines are crafted in this region.

The Lenton Brae vineyard is situated on the northern slopes of the Wilyabrup valley. The fertile soils consist of a gravelly loam over a clay base, facilitating optimum water drainage and quality moisture retention.

The climate in Margaret River provides superior growing conditions, benefiting from the influence of the Indian Ocean and a Mediterranean-style climate with warm summers and cool, rainy winters.

While we get excited about the ancient gravel soils and cool maritime airflow, visitors from around the world travel to our region to experience nature and life at its best. After all, there are few places on earth where you can hop from award-winning wineries and restaurants to pristine beaches, unspoiled bushland, ancient caves and world-class surf breaks.

WILYABRUP

The Wilyabrup range is our premium line of wines.

The offering represents the culmination of everything we have learned since our first vintage in 1987.

The Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon and Chardonnay are made exclusively from Wilyabrup fruit. We will soon be releasing our new Blanc De Blancs in the method champagnoire style within this range.

Strict site selection and exacting barrel selection ensure that the output is consistently of a high standard.

WINEMAKING

As winegrowers, we have an intimate understanding of our vineyard’s land and growing conditions. Our winemaking philosophy is one of balance – driven by decades of experience but with a focus on the future. Under the longstanding guidance of ‘wine whisperer’, viticulturist, and assistant winemaker Russell Cocker, we consistently produce exceptional fruit that translates into world-class wines that are true expressions of our rich heritage and unique coastal location.
