OUR HERITAGE

Lenton Brae is a family owned winery nestled in the hills of Wilyabrup, just north of Margaret River. The Jackson family’s connection to the estate began in 1991, when they became the majority shareholders. As one of the region’s founding wineries, our legacy spans more than four decades and continues to be a cornerstone of Margaret River’s winemaking story.

The name Lenton Brae carries a rich history.
LENTON refers to the historic chapel district of Nottingham, England, where the original owners came from, symbolised by the bells that continue to ring across the vineyard on the hour. BRAE, meaning ‘hillside’ in northern English-Scottish, perfectly describes our vineyard’s picturesque setting.

VINEYARD

Our first planting took place in 1982. Since then, our 17-hectare property has remained viticulturally active, with 11 hectares under vine and 19 different clones.

Positioned across an east-facing slope, our white varieties capture the soft morning light while minimising their exposure to the intense afternoon heat on hot summer days. The red varieties are positioned to benefit from the warmth of the afternoon sun.
Beneath the vines, forest and mungite gravels sit over loam with spotted clay. Together with the mediterranean climate and coastal influence, these soils provide ideal growing conditions while retaining valuable moisture through the dry summers.
The vineyard consists of 59% white varieties (pinot blanc, semillon & chardonnay) and 41% red (merlot, cabernet, petit verdot, cabernet franc)
Our Semillon was the first vines planted at Lenton Brae and, now more than 40 years old, will produce our 39th consecutive vintage of SSB in 2026!

We have made significant investments in our vineyard to ensure a future of our exceptional wines. With an average annual crush of 150 tonnes and production of approximately 15,000 cases, our wines are crafted in small batches with careful fruit selection and a minimal-intervention approach. It is a considered balance of heritage, innovation and a deep understanding of our land.

Wilyabrup is the most highly regarded winemaking subregion in Margaret River. It is named after the Wilyabrup Creek, which flows through many vineyards. Some of the world’s greatest wines are crafted in this region.
Our vineyard is situated on the northern slopes of the Wilyabrup valley. Visitors from around the world travel to our region to experience nature and life at its best. After all, there are few places on earth where you can hop from award-winning wineries and restaurants to pristine beaches, unspoiled bushland, ancient caves and world-class surf breaks.

Under the longstanding guidance of ‘wine whisperer’, viticulturist, and assistant winemaker Russell Cocker, we consistently produce exceptional fruit that translates into world-class wines that are true expressions of our rich heritage and unique coastal location.
