This vintage is only the third Margaret River Shiraz produced by Lenton Brae.
It combines the best attributes of the two previous attempts; both of which were gold medal winners displaying the weight and texture of 2007 with the aromatics and vibrancy of 2008.
The season was warm and dry with harvest dates for all varieties earlier than usual. The shiraz vines in particular, benefited from this warmth and attained full ripeness; a feat not always possible for this variety in Margaret River.
The wine is of medium body, with a supple, juicy texture. Its soft tannins make the wine approachable now, though the wine has the fruit intensity to allow cellaring for up to five years.
Bottled July 2010.
Price: $35.00
Reviews for the 2008 Lenton Brae Shiraz
"Regionally distinctive, with ripe rasberry flavours and subtle spice. The palate is fine, elegant and medium bodied. Gorgeous."
Toni Paterson MW, House and Garden May 2010.
"The opening play of savoury plum and spices is immediately engaging. On the palate you get soft, generous fruit delivered with so much poise. The tannins are silky, fine but firm and support what is a very good wine. Love the mix of chocolate, coffee and spices. 93/100"
Ray Jordan, The West magazine 16.1.10
"An attractive combination of immediate appeal and more contemplative character.
Excellent texture and tannin through the finish. There’s still a sense of rawness to it - another 12 months in the bottle and it should drink beautifully.93/100 "
Campbell Mattinson, Winefront December 2009.
